The GCC eGovernment Award: The Winners List

In a festive ceremony in Kuwait this week at inauguration of the GCC eGovernment Conference, the results of the 2nd GCC eGovernment Award were announced. The six GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman , Qatar, Saudi Arabia and UAE ) had nominated more than 85 applications to the award’s six categories. UAE and Oman have won all the 6 awards (3 for each). Here are the full winners list:

Best National Portal Award: UAE national portal (, here is a photo of His Excellency Mr. Salem Al Shair Al Suwaidi Director General of Emirates eGovernment (@EmirateseGov) receiving the award.

Best eContent: the website of Dubai Health Authority – UAE.

Best G2C eService: The Easy Licensing eService from Dubai Road and Transport Authority – UAE.

Best G2B eService: Electronic Cheque Clearing System by Central Bank – Oman

Best G2G Project: eTendering System from the Information Technology Authority – Oman.

Best Portal for Development Sector: Educational Portal of Ministry of Education – Oman

These results strongly affirm the leading position of UAE in the region, the country was the first one to embrace the eGovernment concept in the region more than a decade ago. Also, it declares Oman as a rising country and reward the effort being made by the Information Technology Authority and other government agencies during the last few years.

The third version of the GCC eGovernment Award will be hosted and organized by Emirates eGovernment in UAE in 2013. And as the award its second version, I believe the six countries should focus more on transform it to a platform for cooperation and collaboration between the six neighboring countries (read my earlier post on this).

Again congratulations to UAE and Oman, well done!
